‘An Edited Life’ Book Tour Event

Published by Jasmine Langcaster-James on

Last week I went to my first book-tour event, and it was so fun that I thought I’d share the experience with you. It was held at ‘The Pantry’ restaurant in Norwich. Upon arrival, each visitor received a gin cocktail and a copy of the book, ‘An Edited Life’ by Anna Newton, a blogger who goes by The Anna Edit(or if you’re a long time follower of hers, Vivianna Does Makeup –we all love a throwback). We took our seats and Anna came on stage accompanied by blogger Erica Davies. Erica was interviewing the author and, as they’re friends in real life, the interview was so natural. I was also so pleased to find that Anna came across just as lovely and witty as she does in her videos.

After the talk was wrapped up, I joined the queue to have my book signed by the author. Anna was so friendly, and I feel awful because I suddenly became all nervous and shy in a bout of serious fan-girling. I’m not normally a ‘fan-girler’ (if that’s even a word), but I’ve been following Anna for years now, and it just felt so surreal to meet the woman who I spent most of my teen years watching, the woman who managed to convince me to buy countless skincare and makeup products (shout-out to fake tan and MAC’s ‘Hue’ lipstick, oh dear) using my part-time jobs wages. Undeterred by my stuttering and awkwardness she was completely lovely and told me I was wearing a very “chic” outfit. Oh. My. God. *Never wears another outfit again*And that was that, it was time to head off for a sneaky McDonalds on the way home.

I’m about half way through now, which is saying something for me as I generally find it difficult to stick with non-fiction books, and I love it. Even though a lot of her tips and tricks don’t yet apply to me as I’m still a student and not yet a fully fledged working adult, her witty writing style and popular culture references (Ryan Gosling is mentioned at least 100 times, and who doesn’t love that?) keeps me smiling and engaged. The only negative thing I have to say about the book so far is that the first time I picked it up to read it the gold lettering on the cover began rubbing off, but hey, we’re not meant to judge books by their covers right?

I’d finally like to quickly add that I attended this event alone as part of my New Years Resolution to take myself out more – there is a blog post about this coming soon, so stay tuned. I’m so glad I went to the event and got the chance to not only pick up my own copy of the bestseller but also meet the hardworking, charming author behind it.
