The January Scrapbook

Published by Jasmine Langcaster-James on

I’ve never been great at keeping a diary or a scrapbook; I find the process more stressful than relaxing. So for the past couple of years I’ve been using a Line-A-Day-for-5-Years diary, which has been working so well for me. I don’t feel frustrated when I miss a day, and I never feel like I run out of words to say. The only downside with this is missing out on having space to put all the little tickets and drawings I would usually want to stick in a journal. So, inspired by Lizzy Hadfield from the Shot on the Street blog, I decided to scan all the little bits-and-bobs I wanted to memorialise from my month’s antics and pop them up on here. That way I can keep the memories without the clutter of a desk drawer permanently full of receipts and old ticket stubs.

There’s something I love about the way a palette looks after spending the afternoon painting: this particular one is from my Berlin Zine, featured on my blog here.
I went to Berlin for a weekend break in January, and loved every minute. Read about it here.
I returned to university after Christmas break and have been thrown full-force into dissertation preparation. I spent most of my days reading through Hemingway books and critical essays.
As my New Year’s Resolution, I’ve vowed to send more letters, and so far I’ve been sticking to that vow. I also plan to visit my Mum back home in London for her birthday, where we will be seeing Matilda in the Westend. As a family, we love the theatre, and I can’t wait!
I have a to-do list the length of my arm most weeks, and I always make sure to include small things like ’10 minute exercise’, and ‘shower and hair wash’, so that on the days when I feel run down and unable to complete bigger tasks, I can still tick off even the smallest of jobs and feel like I accomplished something. This week was also the week when I went to Anna Newton’s book tour event, which you can read about here.
I’m always dappling with new creative endeavours, and this month I bought myself a mini-loom. Here is the first ever weave I’ve created. It’s definitely not one for the wall, but we all have to start somewhere, right?
My friend from London came up to visit me at University in Norwich, and we had such a lovely time shopping, chatting, face-masking, and Bridget Jones watching. It was lovely.

I hope you enjoyed having a peak into my online-scrap book. I aim next time to include more photography, but until then, I hope you all have a great February!
